On 9 April campaign partner Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF France) successfully delivered their petition "Stop endocrine disruptors in toys" to French Health and Environment Ministers.
WECF France stresses the need to act globally to reduce the impact of EDCs on our health as studies across Europe show that bisphenol A, phthalates and other EDCs are all harmful substances found in toys. The European directive on the safety of toys should be revised and the REACH regulations need to incorporate EDCs in their entirety.
At a time when France is developing its National Strategy on EDCs, WECF France on behalf of consumers and the 30,000 signatories who signed the petition, has asked French Health and Environment Ministers to adopt a comprehensive approach to the regulation of EDCs as a category of substances.
To do this, it is necessary to better understand the use of chemicals in toys and mobilise all stakeholders involved – including regulators, manufacturers, distributors, and consumer protection associations. The toy industry must work without causing a risk to health and the environment.
